For a sore throat, hot honey and lemon with a shot of brandy in it, but a runny nose requires a pharaceutical battering. Try Actifed if you can get it there, failing that a polycell gap gun squirted up each nostril should stop the flow. Or corks. Seriously, if you can just go hibernate for a day or two and sod the rest of the world. We'll still be here when you're better.

What's Your Favourite Way to Treat a Bad Cold?
by lifelong humanist ini've been suffering from a really bad cold, with flu-type symptoms, for almost a week now.
very unusual for me.. it couldn't have come at a worse time, as i've just started working as a self-employed person, working outdoors in all weathers.
no sick pay, so no money coming in.. i expect that i'll be ok for monday, though.. i'm right in the middle of making a homemade lamb curry.

LINUX-users left in 'the dark' with Watchtower Library CD's ??
by linux-user inhi, i was wondering why there isn't any native linux-version yet of the watchtower library cd's available?
because i(as many others) don't use windows, but the free ubuntu-linux( http://www.ubuntu.com/ ) on my computer, and can only view those cd's with a free 'emulator', called 'wine', but that is not always 'working good' .... so, please, can there in the future be a possibility to get a native linux cd ??

Thanks very much Teel, you now have linux guru status, so you can expect to be plagued by us Acolytes of the Almighty Penguin. Don't you just love that term "supported by donation"? Surely a euphemism for "dig deeper you miserly heathen". You get guilt tripped into donating excessively so you don't seem to be as tight as a fly's rectum and depriving the GB of a second bottle of Krug.

I hate to pee on anyone's bonfire, but isn't the date somewhat arbitrary? 12/21/12 might seem mystical or have some meaning in numerology, but that's only if you use the US format of writing dates with the month preceeding the day. Here in the UK it's the norm to write day-month-year, e.g. 21/12/12, so does it still apply here or do we have to miss out. Just like we do for new movies, software, Apple gadgets etc?

Christian Fundies KILL their son
by wobble inherbert and catherine schaibel of the first century gospel church in philadelphia were convicted in december of involuntary manslaughter of their son, kent, who had a lung infection and they tried to pray the problem away as their church sees the use of meds.
as a lack of faith in god and therefore a sin.
the poor lad died.. i found this comment on the case , as reported in the guardian (u.k) newspaper thurs 3rd feb. pg 25:.

Christian Scientist? Now there's an oxymoron if ever I heard one. There's bugger all science involved here, and I can hardly think it's a very Christian thing to do either. Maybe it's not so much oxy and more MORON.

Just a thought, do the individual Borgs have to pay the WT for the CD? If so, might that preclude a native Linux version that used any open source code as it would contravene the GPL? How could they make any money from that?

Does anyone know if the Propaganda CD is available as a bit torrent anywhere? I've never been assimilated, just hovered on the peripheries of the Borg, and that's dissipated hugely over the last few months, so I can't borrow a legit one without showing up on radar again. I just want access to the same arsenal they use.
Incidentally, I use Mint 10 64-bit and OpenSUSE, both without problems. I think Wine had stability issues with KDE4 at first, but they seem resolved with more recent distros.

Blood Ban and Your Pets
by compound complex inhow irrational the society could be was experienced by the sister-in-law of ex-bethelite william (bill) cetnar when .... at the suggestion of her veterinarian, she had a blood transfusion given to her poodle to prolong its life.
she couldn't believe bill [cetnar]when he told her that the society would say she had violated god's law.
at his urging she wrote the society on the matter and the response she received informed her that she had done wrong.

So to paraphrase, Jehovah hates animals. Unless they're offered up as a sacrifice or burnt offering, so I guess Big J loves barbecues...
If they mean so little, why bother to make so many in the first place? (Anyone might think they evolved for themselves...) Why bother to get Noah, that biblical captain Birdseye, to save them? (Except the unicorns, mmm, tasty.....)
Leeches originally were meant to feed on tomato juice, but could never get the bottles open. That's why man was made last, the opposable thumbs were an afterthought. Just lucky we don't have a bottle opener or corkscrew on each hand.

Fallout 2014
by wobble income 2014 even some dubs must start to ask wtf jesus has been doing for one hundred years, and there is a big potential for many to leave.. what more will the wt bull**it (writing) department come out with to keep the poor little drones feeding the hive, and maintaining the gb's rock-star life-style ?.
the over-lapping generation tripe will be getting on for five years old by then, surely "noo lite" will shine that makes the big a even closer or somesuch ?.
come on chaps, those poor saps in writing need your best ideas.

BrotherDan, why keep that book in the bathroom? The paper is too slippery and not absorbent enough for the obvious use, try using a more textured Awake instead. Just watch out for the staple.

A Beloved and Compassionate Elder Trapped in a Cult Just Died , What should I do?
by TastingFreedom ini just heard the sad news that a very loving and kind elder for the congregation that i belonged to for 15 years just died from a heart attack.
he was someone that i had great admiration and deep respect for, even now that i'm out from the jws.
he was my mentor and an inspiration to me as an elder, and in many ways he showed me the contradictions of the wts, he was a breath of fresh air within a cult.

So long as you remember this thoroughly decent, noble man his true nature will never be forgotten. Nor will any amount of WT whitewash erase his true nature. Mourn his passing certainly, but do so in a way that honours who he was, not what they would have you believe. If you feel unable to attend the funeral, then don't. Go to the grave later. Send condolences or flowers if you wish, it's up to those he left behind how they respond to them. You're actions are beyond reproach, motivated by respect and admiration. Those who truly knew and understood him will appreciate the gesture, and if not then it's their loss. I am sure this gentleman would think well of you. It sounds as though he was one of the good guys, and the world is a poorer place with his passing.
